QoTD: Toy Story
What was the one toy you wanted as a kid that your parents never bought you?

Well, I asked for a toy only once - a Barbie when I was about six - because I was fascinated with the endless array of clothes and shoes she seemed to have. (I can't stand Barbies now.) But my parents bought one for me anyway, almost a year later - I had forgotten all about her by then!
Of course, that doesn't answer the question. But I'm writing this because it reminded me of one toy I really loved ... my late Glo-Friend Spider.
My late maternal grandfather bought me this toy when I was a four-year-old in Mumbai. I promptly took it to kindergarten a few days later and it got stolen. Ashamed and sorry, I didn't tell my grandfather, and until the end of his life, never asked him for anything ever again. I did ask my parents for a couple of things (like the Barbie) but never more than once. And I certainly never asked for a Glo-Friend again.
I adored my chubby little spider, and I wanted more Glo-Friends. I loved their droopy bug eyes, bulging cheeks and extreme roundness.

I remember going to bed thinking how cool it was that the toy glowed. Come to think of it, I would actually get a little scared of seeing them glowing strangely in the dark, but I loved my toy so much that I managed to convince myself it was to help little children stop being scared of darkness.

I'd forgotten about this for nearly ten years - then all it took was one QoTD, and voila, the memories came flooding back. Sadly, I haven't seen them in any toy store for ages. Sigh.
Now I want another Glo-Friend. Preferably a Spider.

I remember Glo' Worms! My kids all had them when they were little!
When my first granddaughter was born 9 years ago, my daughter used to wrap her all tight in her blankie (like a cocoon) and she was so small and wrapped like that, we used to say that she looked JUST like a little Glo' Worm!
Sucks that your little Glo' Spider was stolen...&:o( You should go on ebay --- I'm sure there are Glo' Worms there, cheap!
Have a good day, suga'. &:o)
I remember these guys! In fact, I have one sitting on my book shelf at home (but for the life of me, I cannot picture which one it is!).
My sister, brother and I all had one or two of these little guys, but it was my brother (the baby of the family) who loved his the most. I remember that he wouldn't go to bed unless he had this favorite Glo-Friend with him.
I'll bet you CAN find one easily on Ebay.
My daughter had a Smooshie turtle (soft stuffed body which fit into a plastic turtle shell) and it's name was Picklehead. We left it in a motel in Kentucky somewhere. Even called there and asked them to look for it. No luck. So, just a couple of years ago we found a Picklehead on Ebay. I bought him for her. (Never having recovered from the guilt of leaving Picklehead in a motel room).
Lauri - That was sweet! And a sweet name too! "Picklehead" ... hehe.
Wonder if I will find one on eBay India? Besides, I don't have a credit card! :(
This post reminded me of my own childhood Glo-Friend...it was a big purple rat which glowed white in the dark:)
