Monday Movie Review

Comments

wow.. you didn't like juno?! dude.. *everyone* liked juno.. lol. but seriously.. that's not the kind of comment anyone really made about the movie, and it's very true as well. i still thought it was well done and enjoyable.

you need to see there will be blood. best movie evar. and daniel day lewis should have gotten two oscars for best actor in that movie.

*Everyone* liked Juno...

O rly? I remember seeing quite a few posts (even those not from my 'hoodies) who didn't like the movie, and for the same reasons.

Yes, it does have its moments. And maybe the Chinese girl thing is reading a bit too much into it. But I still think it was overrated.

There Will Be Blood is definitely on my must-see list. I've seen very little of Daniel Day Lewis and that is simply unacceptable.

Have not seen Juno yet. I like animation. Loved Annie Hall. Hm think that covers it. lol

...but I gotta echo the "wha??? you didn't like Juno???" sentiments. Ellen Page was maybe a little too glib for the character she was portraying (I mean, there are definitely 16-year-olds who are smart enough to deliver all that dialog, but there HAVE to be pauses occasionally while they come up with it)... overall I thought it was the best-written movie I'd seen in years. Even Jennifer Garner impressed me, and I totally thought she stunk all the way through her "Alias" TV series. (Except, she did do her own stunts, and I'm a sucker for that.)
PS -- re: Javier Bardem in NCFOM (brrr)
I really have to tell you these are some of the BEST WRITTEN movie reviews I've read in ages. Better than professional critics. Truly. I know you weren't writing them for that reason, but still...Bravo. I'm going out to rent Michael Clayton asap. Thanks!

Thats my kinda review!

So you liked the Bee Movie..what about Ratatouille?

I liked Michael Clayton, though it took me a while to figure out what was really going on. ( I am so dumb with movies.)

Next in line- Lives of Others and There Will be Blood.

"There are definitely 16-year-olds who are smart enough to deliver all that dialog, but there HAVE to be pauses occasionally while they come up with it..."

That's what got me. It was a little too forced. I know a 13-year-old who comes up stuff like that, but atleast she pauses to think of it. LOL.

However I have to say Ellen Page is much more believeable in Juno than in Hard Candy, where she's supposed to be a prodigiously intelligent 14-year-old who has been sexually abused. Such kids are definitely far more mature for their age, but still, her character's mastery of psychological warfare made it hard to believe she was that young. Still, Hard Candy is a pretty decent movie.

Juno definitely is well-written, but maybe I expected greater stuff from the movie after all the hype surrounding it.

Oops! I totally forgot Ratatouille! Thanks for the reminder - I'll review it in my next post! :)
